I have 25.000 req/min on my Heartbleed test API? Fine, spin up that Elastic Load Balancer in front of 15 of those EC2 machines, store logs in that S3 bucket, use that DynamoDB as cache. well I don't actually NEED this one, but it's a nice way to read articles and they will store/index them for me once I read them (see Pinboard) and it's dirty cheap.ĪWS works. Problem solved: "I remember reading about that somewhere, let's look it up".Ī Prime is just the free shipping part, it makes shopping oh-so-much-more enjoyable. Also, it will store a copy of everything I bookmarked, so that it does not get lost. Pinboard just saves my favorites, and lets me search through them when I need (full-text search). Problem solved: "I need to receive and send mail". It's fast, compatible, reliable and has a nice web interface, I don't need anything else. I get my domain with TLS delivery, a support line with devs, and nice power-user tools. Mail is a horrible thing to deal with on your own, but I rely on it, so I want to pay for it. Problem solved: "I need manage my project" + static hosting as a bonus.įastMail simply handles my mail. Also, GitHub Pages is the best static hosting platform I ever used. GitHub is how I'm trained to manage projects, for my private ones. Problem solved: "I need to host this sites/domains/DNS/mailboxes for my clients". Power-user friendly, I never thought "I wish they allowed/supported that". Problem solved: "I need to send clients invoices".ĭreamHost hosts anything, unlimited. Big colored buttons will tell me what to do, and if I can't still figure it out, support will do that for me. Problem solved: "My site is slow" + SSL as a bonus.įreshbooks lets me track my time, invoices and payments with 0 learning curve, I'm busy working after all. Problem solved: "I need a Ubuntu box".Ĭloudflare will cache my site - making it faster for clients and lighter for me -, handle DNS and get me A+ TLS (and other services I don't actually use) at the turn of a button. Linode gets me a box with a clear, clean, full-featured control panel, good specs and network, and every year or so, I'll magically get upgraded, so that I feel I'm always getting the best for my money (even if other services are cheaper). All of them will never misbehave, or make me think "did it work" or "how do I turn this off, it's annoying!". I will use it for the coming fiscal year to start on a clean slate ! Might even re-enter 2013 in there if I feel bored-silly on some overcast day.Īnd I tend to think the developer is serious and will keep this alive for many years to come. What I look for in a paid service, and what I get from these is a reliable, out-of-my-way, "premium" (I feel that the service is working to make things best for me) solution to _one_ problem I have, with good support that actually cares, if applicable. And thus much cheaper with all three modules than the software collection above as well. had I only known !ĮasyBooks can be the replacement for the above three, all in one. and ended up a total waste of crashing money. I even bought something called Debit+Credit that was supposed to play well with GrandTotal. I downloaded it and opened it a few times over months, just to take a glimpse once in a while and click a few buttons here and there, until I finally dove in! This will officially replace my current setup: iCompta/TimeLog/GrandTotal (which I upgraded not long ago. I have now played around with this, which scared me I have to admit, it somehow looks "serious and stern" which it should be but that put me off a bit at first (accounting does anyway). Ok, I've postponed this decision for 2 years now. I also found out that since I purchased the app from the App Store the subscription fees are less than on the website. Very easy to customize and tweak to just what you want, within reason. Very professional looking output document. UPDATE: Just configured invoices, payment receipts, and statement of account for one of my businesses. If you are a single company, there may be cheaper alternatives out there but I've found the quality of this software to be excellent. If you have multi-company needs you are hard pressed to find more value for your money. The periodic reports for ME, QE, and YE of 2018 were a breeze to produce and send off to my clients. I used the Bronze plan for 2018 and seven LLC/S-Corps. I upgraded to the Silver plan for 2019 so that I can work with the invoices feature. I was using Xero online and was paying substantially more for a one-company product. Yet for that modest amount the features and quality are top notch. EasyBooks 7.8 is easily the best Accounting app I have used that has multi-company support.
